The Calibration Expert with a Feel for Compelling Content
Heikki Laurila joined Beamex in 1988 as a new graduate with a Bachelor’s of Engineering. Heikki recounts that it was an expansive time for the company. Beamex received The Internationalisation Award of the President of the Republic just a year after his joining, and he was in Helsinki to see the CEO at the time shake hands with the President of Finland.
Heikki spent his first few years at Beamex working in production and calibrator service. In the early 1990s, quality certification became a hot topic in the industry.
“We noticed that customers started asking for ISO 9001 and for a while, customer-specific audits became necessary. It was obvious that we needed to become certified, so I was asked if I wanted to work on the quality certification”.
Heikki was appointed Quality Manager, and in 1992 Beamex attained ISO 9001 certification.
Just before the turn of the millennium, a substantial project to develop the Beamex MC5 product family was started. The management saw the need for concentrated product management, and Heikki was offered the role of Product Manager.
In this new role he compiled product information and started writing white papers. Later, he continued writing articles for the Beamex blog, which quickly became popular.
Now part of a marketing team, producing internet content remains a major part of Heikki’s work duties today. He has a voice that resonates with the audience – credibility from his long-standing interest in calibrations and a certain amount of Finnish humor.
“I used to have a slogan on my wall saying that if you’re going to create content, make sure it’s the best on the internet. Of course, it’s important that the content we create is suitable for Google’s algorithms and for how AI tools like ChatGPT retrieve and understand information, but above all it should be relevant and educational for the reader and our customers”.
Heikki was one of the founders of Team Beamex in the 1990s, a group that organizes employee activities and events. According to Heikki, being able to do things together outside of work strengthens the community and job satisfaction.
He sees the fact that he has been given the chance to work with so many different things as one of the major reasons why his work motivation has lasted for over 35 years.
“Participating in the development of the MC6 product family was very rewarding. It has been great to see how well MC6 turned out, and that it has been so successful on the market. I have also enjoyed working closely with our subsidiaries and partners. Several of the people I’ve gotten to know are still close friends of mine”.
